Earlier this year many Nintendo Wii owners were experiencing disc read errors whilst playing Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Nintendo responded to the issue with the following statement, “Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system).”

This resulted in many Wiis with contaminated lens being sent in to Nintendo so they could be cleaned. It now seems Nintendo has grown tired of cleaning Wii lens, and has decided to release an official Wii lens cleaner set to the public.

Apart from the Japanese release (sometime this month) and the retail price of ¥800 (which works out roughly to AU$11), very little is known about the Wii lens cleaner set at this point in time.
