New Super Mario Bros. Wii has been revealed to include an optional mode which will allow the player to let the CPU take over until the player is ready to continue.
Shigeru Miyamoto said “In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, if a player is experiencing an area of difficulty, this will allow them to clear troubled areas and take over when they’re ready. And yes, we’re looking into this for future games.”
The optional mode, dubbed the “Demo Mode” is Nintendo’s way of making sure that new players don’t get stuck or find the game ’too hard’ to proceed. It is currently unknown whether this will allow the player to put the game on ’auto-pilot’ while they sit back and watch, or if it will simply show the player a way through their current dilemma.
An interesting idea, but could it promote lazy gaming?

IMO yes, it will promote lazy gaming.
It’s like a game guide.
What I find really annoying about it, is Nintendo are making games too easy. Their older games used to start easy, then gradually became harder as they taught the player to deal with the assorted challenges. This is another backward step towards ignoring the hardcore completely and rather than trying to turn casuals into better gamers, just cater to the lowest common denominator.
Yeah I definitely agree with you there. It seems a bit weak to have an option like this, because to not use the cheat mode would take a lot of willpower, whereas if the temptation wasn’t there in the first place, we’d all be better off.
Games the complete themselves if you tell them to? I’m not really liking the sound of that…
This would be even worse if there were trophies or achievements involved. This isn’t a good direction to be heading, Nintendo.
Next they’ll be wiping our ar$** for us.
yeah, it should be just like the other super Mario bros. on ds,
that was easy enough.
