Satoru Iwata, the current CEO and President of Nintendo, recently revealed to investors that he doesn’t believe Nintendo will need to release a direct successor to the Wii or DS any time soon.
According to an article in The Official Nintendo Magazine, investors asked Iwata if Nintendo planned on launching a new console in 2011. The CEO responded by saying that there is still room for expansion for both the Wii and DS franchises, which eliminates the need for entirely new systems to be developed.
Iwata did, however, echo the earlier sentiments of Shigeru Miyamoto, that Nintendo would continue to develop new hardware, much of which is shaping up to be optional upgrades to Nintendo’s existing systems.
