eponaSiliconera has unearthed Nintendo’s weirdest patent ever, in the form of a Wii peripheral device designed to replicate the experience of riding a horse.

The “Wii Horseback Riding Saddle” consists of an inflatable seat that contains a pocket for holding a Wii remote. The Wii remote itself is responsible for conveying the movements of the person “riding” through the in-built accelerometer. The player is then free to hold the nunchuck in order to replicate a number of different horse riding actions, such as waving a sword or a lasso.

The peripheral isn’t merely destined to be a horse, however, as the patent description also lists camels, elephants and even burros as the potential mounts that gamers will be able to ride using the device. It could also be used to simulate other methods of transportation, such as jet-skis or magic carpets.

Personally I don’t see myself picking this one up, even if it comes bundled with “Link’s Horseback Training”.
