Today Activision has confirmed the closure of Luxoflux and staff layoffs for both Radical Entertainment and Neversoft Entertainment.

Activision was unable to verify the number of employees let go, but unconfirmed reports suggest Radical’s team have been be halved and Neversoft will see additional layoffs after the release of Guitar Hero 6 later this year.

Activision made the following comments in a statement to the press:

“Activision Publishing continually evaluates its resources to ensure that they are properly matched against its product slate and strategic goals,”

“In 2010, the company’s SKU count will be smaller than in 2009 driven in part, by a decrease in the number of music-based games we will be releasing.”

Luxoflux was behind the popular game, Vigilante 8, and also the more recent, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
