Nintendo’s 2010 E3 Press Conference began with the one and only Reggie Fils-Aime coming out on stage and discussing the latest happenings in the video game world. The Regginator very briefly dicussed Nintendo’s Wii, made reference to what other gaming companies were currently up to and then moved onto how Nintendo were constantly raising the bar.
After this, Reggie got straight into the good stuff by announcing The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword and showing off a short trailer of the game. Reggie then left the stage and Nintendo God Shigeru Miyamoto along with video game translator Bill Trinen hopped up to show off The Skyward Sword. In terms of appearance and gameplay, The Skyward Sword seems to be highly similar to previous Zelda title, Twilight Princess. During the demo, Shigsy mainly spoke about how Wii MotionPlus had changed much of the traditional Zelda experience. He explained, and also showed, how the swordplay was now a much stronger element and how there was a new variety of puzzles on offer. The demo of The Skyward Sword eventually ended with Shigsy directing around a flying beetle and then unexpectedly encountering some technical problems with the Wii he was playing on. Before Miyamoto and Trinen left the stage though, they announced that The Legend of Zelda: The Skyward Sword would be out by 2011. Not exactly what we were originally promised, but better late than never.

Reggie then reappeared and mentioned a bit about the upcoming and exclusive NBA game for Wii, and then announced Mario Sports Mix for Wii. He then showed off a trailer of the new Mario game which revealed the title will feature, Hockey, Dodge Ball, Volley Ball and Basket Ball within it and is due out 2011. Shortly after this, Reggie moved onto the hard stuff. The hard stuff being statistics. He spoke about how more people were playing the Wii than ever before and how more people apparently intend to buy the Wii more than any other console. After his short bragging session the name taker and ass kicker announced… Wii Party. A trailer of the game played which revealed that it was a board/mini game style title similar to the games from the Mario Party series. The title will apparently feature up to 72 mini-games. After this Reggie moved onto Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2. Ubisoft’s new title will feature over 40 + tracks, hot dance moves, dancing duets, just sweat mode (ew), dance crew face offs and will allow up to 8 people to get involved in the fun all at the same time.

After the announcement of Just Dance 2, Reggie got the crowd cheering again with news that Nintendo had finally decided on the official title of the next Golden Sun game for the Nintendo DS. A trailer for the title was played revealing the final name as Golden Sun: Dark Dawn. Besides the final name, the Golden Sun trailer also revealed how the sun had risen once again and that it was going to kill us all it was now up to a new generation of heroes to save the world from destruction. At first glance, the graphical style of this game appears to be a bit similar to the style used in games like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles. Besides the name and short trailer, nothing else was mentioned about this title. Reggie stuck to the golden theme by then announcing a remake of GoldenEye 007 for the Wii. He then ran a trailer for it which revealed that it would feature Daniel Craig as James Bond, realistic graphics, split-screen multiplayer for up to 8 players, 16 game mod modes and would be due out on the Wii next holidays.

Shortly after that golden announcement, Reggie invited Warren Spector (General Manager & Creative Director of Junction Point) and Adam Creighton (Producer of Epic Mickey) to the stage to discuss their upcoming Wii title, Epic Mickey. They give a long demo showing off an area in-game called the Wasteland and also another place called the travel zone which is setup like a traditional 2D platformer. These guys show off Epic Mickey for a quite some time and then eventually move off stage. The Regginator then hops back on stage and talks about how Nintendo are always trying to redesign their most famous characters and game worlds. He then linked this to Kirby and surprised everyone by announcing Kirby’s Epic Yarn for the Nintendo Wii. Judging by the trailer shown, Epic Yarn looks to be quite similar to the Nintendo 64 title Yoshi’s Story and also appeared to run very smoothly. After the announcement of a new pink puff ball game, Reggie spoke about the popularity of the Dragon Quest series, and how Dragon Quest IX was exclusive to DS and would be released in just 26 days on July 11. After this the crowd got another look at Team Ninja’s Metroid: Other M with a completely new trailer. The third person sections of the game look quite solid, along with the first person and 2D side-on platforming sections. The graphics are also looking great as well.

After the Metroid trailer, Reggie made a very, very big announcement. He announced that Retro Studios, the creators of the Metroid Prime series, were working on a new Donkey Kong game called Donkey Kong Country Returns. Staying true to the original DKC series , this new game for Wii will feature a 2 player mode, mine kart levels and a variety of animals to ride around on. Last, but definitely not least, Reggie then went onto reveal the Nintendo 3DS for the very first time. It looks very similar to a standard DS, but features a wider top screen, two cameras, an analogue stick, a 3D slider, GameCube-like graphics and also a constant wireless connection. After breaking down the new handheld, Reggie then moved off stage, and Satoru Iwata came on stage. Iwata announced that a tonne of developers were already developing games for the 3DS (too many to mention here) and then he revealed Kid Icarus: Uprising - a game designed purely for the 3DS. Iwata finished up by then announcing that the new DS would be able to play 3D movies, and that a 3D version of Nintendogs was also in the making (now also, featuring cats).

After this, Reggie came out on stage and told everyone in the crowd that free 3DS and women would be available after the show. Okay, not really. Here’s what really happened. Reggie came out and told everybody in the audience that they would be able to test out the new Zelda title and also the 3DS. And that was how Nintendo’s 2010 E3 Press Conference ended. Oh and at some point in the show, Reggie also showed off some funny video of him, Iwata, Shigsy and Bowser in a 3DS.
