Happy 21st birthday Nintendo! Actually, no, make that happy 121st birthday because today Nintendo is exactly 121 years old.
Yes it’s true. Way back on September 23, 1889 Fusajiro Yamauchi founded a playing card company which would later go on to create love hotels, arcade games, Nintendo Entertainment Systems, disasters such as the Virtual Boy, revolutionary products such as the DS and of course iconic video game characters such as Mario.
To get an idea of just how old Nintendo is, Valve has been around since 1996, Sega started up in 1940, Blizzard Entertainment has existed since 1991 and even Australia’s Krome Studios has only been around since 1980. So yeah, Nintendo are old! But with age comes wisdom, right?
The staff at TNB wishes Nintendo a happy birthday and hopes that the company keeps going strong for the next 121 years.
