As many Nintendo fans may already know, last week the 3DS received its first major update. This update enhanced the performance of the 3DS and unlocked a stack of new features for the system.

The main focus of this particular update though was the launch of the Nintendo eShop. The Nintendo eShop currently allows 3DS owners to download new and classic games, add 3D applications to their 3DS, view trailers in 3D and rate any of the games they own.

For those who still aren’t so sure what all the fuss is about, Nintendo has added a few free items to the store showing off its potential.

The first is the classic game Excitebike remastered in 3D and the second is an application called Pokédex 3D. The remastered NES title will be part of a new game line from Nintendo called 3D Classics and Pokédex 3D is simply a Pokédex of Black and White Pokémon in 3D. 3D Classics Excitebike will be available for free until July 7 and Pokedex 3D looks as if it will be permantly available for free.

Besides the eShop, firmware update 2.0.0-2E unlocked the 3DS’s inbuilt web browser and added an automatic update feature to the system.

Today Nintendo also released a new update to fix the issues update 2.0.0-2E was causing with the 3DS launch title, Ridge Racer 3D. It also fixed a few errors going on with the 3DS behind the scenes after the previous update.

Check back to TNB soon for reviews of 3D Classics Excitebike and Pokédex 3D.
