Tag: DS News, Nintendo NewsPrattP @ 9:47 pm

“381 people made history at Parramatta, Westfield on October 12 when they gathered to break a world record for the number of people playing with a Nintendo DS in one area at one time.

This historic event, which forms a new category in the Guinness World Records book, was hosted by both K-Zone and Nintendo and supervised by an official Guinness World Records adjudicator.”

Pretty cool record. Well done Ninty.

6 first-party million sellers on Wii

Tag: Nintendo NewsPrattP @ 5:09 pm

Nintendo has announced that six of its first-party published games have managed to sell more than a million copies each around the world.

Wii Sports was the best performing title, with sales of more than 11.1 million copies, although in regions not counting Japan, the game comes included with every Wii console, providing a clear advantage.

Wii Play’s the next-best performer, having sold more than 6.3 million copies, due most likely to the value offered by the included Wii Remote. Mario Party 8, was next in line, with sales of 2.9 million copies.

Big Brain Academy for Wii, to be released in Australia on November 8, followed with 1.8 million copies sold, and the last noted, surprisingly, was Mario Strikers Charged Football, with 1.3 million copies sold globally.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was not noted for some reason. Previous reports had stated that this game had sold at least a million copies in America alone.

In the spirit of giving (and watching TV)

Tag: Wii NewsPrattP @ 5:05 pm

According to a new report, the Wii Shopping Channel will soon be getting an upgrade and an all-new channel will be soon be released. Firstly, the upgrade to the Wii Shopping Channel will allow players to buy Virtual Console and WiiWare games for a friend. The recipient of the gift will receive a message and will then be transferred to the shopping channel to download the program. This is due to happen sometime in December.

Next up is a TV Guide channel which, like the name implies, will show you what’s currently on the small screen. However, that’s not due for release till later next year in Q2. More details on how exactly these channels will work and what regions will receive them will be revealed by Nintendo in the future.

Tag: Wii NewsPrattP @ 4:39 pm

A third Kirby series character has been announced, this being the likes of, the one, the only, King Dedede. Compared to the likes of Donkey Kong and Bowser, Dedede will be a heavy hitting character for the slower but more damage inducing fans and will fall into the heavyweight fighter category. Super Mario Galaxy 38/40: Famitsu

Tag: Nintendo News, Wii NewsPrattP @ 6:21 pm

Yes, it has arrived. The infamous Famitsu has released a review of Super Mario Galaxy, giving it a 38/40, two reviewers giving it a full 40. The reviews explain, as has been quoted, that the game has a good but balanced difficulty, and is accompanied with beautifully animated gravity changes that combined with Mario’s special actions, improve boss fights.

The game paces itself well, gradually building up things available in the game with a good tempo. It was also said that the Wiimote controls work almost too well, but the fact remains that this is a game that everyone can play. “Just being able to point and gather star pieces is exhilarating”. For comparison Super Mario 64 received a 39/40 and Super Mario Sunshine a 37/40.

Game Boy and GB Colour games for DS?

Tag: DS NewsPrattP @ 6:20 pm

In addition to reporting exciting (but unofficial) new details regarding Animal Crossing on Wii, Edge magazine has claimed in its latest issue that the arrival of an official Nintendo DS flash card is “imminent.”

The device has the ability to store and play past Game Boy and Game Boy Color games, which Nintendo will sell in similar style to its Virtual Console titles on Wii.

Edge also stated, “Compared to the slightly vague WiiWare proposition, this has the possibility to revolutionise homebrew development – at least in terms of distribution and the possibility of mainstream success – but how far the notoriously controlling Japanese giant will allow that community the creative freedom it requires to flourish will only be seen in practice.”

Animal Crossing MMO?

Tag: Wii NewsPrattP @ 6:10 pm

The latest issue of Edge magazine has revealed a very interesting news piece, by no means a confirmation, but via Japanese sources, the magazine has found out that the Wii version of Animal Crossing is going to be a “social networking MMO”. Nothing else is said in the article, except for that the game is on the way, but that was a given. Only time will tell. Sounds pretty good, in my opinion. :)
