Tony Hawk + Wii Balance Board = Win?

Tag: Wii NewsPrattP @ 8:50 pm

It seems like a pretty logical, and at the same time awesome idea. What has been flying around the net is that the upcoming game Wii Fit’s Balance Board peripheral could be used as a virtual skateboard for Tony Hawk games! It’d definitely be a welcome innovation for the series, and may be its true revival.

And the man himself Tony Hawk is also thinking the same thing, “I’ve seen a little bit of it. I think it’s possible to incorporate the Wii Fit board into one of our games, but it would change the control scheme dramatically and we’d have to figure out how to make that work. So I don’t know yet.” says the skater. Sounds good to me.

Don’t buy a chipped Wii!

Tag: Nintendo News, Wii NewsPrattP @ 6:38 pm

A recent spring in Hong Kong has resulted in over 10,000 chipped Wii’s being seized. As they are illegal (breaking copyright laws) Nintendo has stopped a global distribution operation run by a company called Supreme Factory Limited, involving game copying devices and modification chips that violate its copyrights and trademarks of both its Nintendo DS and Wii systems, the company has announced. The game copying devices are used to copy and play game files offered unlawfully via the Internet, and the mod chips allow for pirated Wii discs or illegal copies of Nintendo games downloaded from the Internet to be played.

The raid occurred over three days starting on October 8.

Moral of the story: Don’t buy a chipped Wii or even get a Wii chipped in the first place. Nintendo are cracking down on anti-piracy, and to show this (if you are not already aware) system updates now come on game discs, so even if you don’t have you Wii connected to the net, and there is a chip in your Wii, it’s going to lock up, and it’s no more Wii for you. :(

360 tops US charts, Nintendo closely follows

Tag: Nintendo NewsPrattP @ 10:27 am

The September US sales charts from NPD have arrived, bringing along with it a whole bunch of statistics, not as much in Nintendo’s favour this time. Metroid Prime 3 being released a couple of days before the month begins hasn’t helped, but also, who could forget the huge release of Halo 3 on the Xbox 360, has bumped the Wii off the top spot, selling 527,800 Xbox 360 consoles compared to 501,000 Wii consoles.

Nintendo of America have spoken out about the results, saying “The Wii went up against the self-proclaimed ‘biggest entertainment launch ever’ and we emerged with our best month of the year. They fired their bullet and our gun is loaded and ready to fire throughout the holidays.” Let’s hope so. (Full figures inside)

Superstar Tennis from Sega for Wii and DS

Tag: Wii NewsPrattP @ 10:11 am

Sega has today announced Sega Superstar Tennis, a tennis game featuring 15 Sega characters from various Sega franchises. The game is being developed by Semo Digital, and will feature characters from classic Sega franchises such as Ulala of Space Channel 5, and Sonic the Hedgehog among many others.

Sega announced: “From its pick-up-and-play arcade action to its exciting roster of fan-favourite characters and settings, Sega Superstars Tennis has something for everyone.” Let’s hope the Wii version will have online play, but from reports, it seems unlikely. Sega Superstar Tennis is coming to the PS2, PS3, Wii, DS and X360 early next year.

Okami for Wii

Tag: Wii NewsPrattP @ 7:16 am

A PS2 port, yes, but a brilliant game nonetheless. Okami is almost coming to the Wii, however no official recordings have been made. The embargo period for the silence of the creation of the game ends tomorrow morning, so hopefully we’ll have some firm details and some screens then.

Okami will definitely be suited for the Wii, the Celestial Brush with Wii-mote controls will just be awesome, and even more interactive than the original. Stay tuned for more details.

Wii Zapper and Zelda bundle release date announced

Tag: Wii NewsPrattP @ 10:08 pm

Nintendo Australia has confirmed that Link’s Crossbow Training will be debuting in Australia on December 13, bundled with the Wii Zapper for $49.95.

Pretty good value in my opinion. A definite purchase, shame it isn’t coming before the release of Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, for which the Zapper will be predominately used. Better late than never, especially with Nintendo! (What it’ll look like and its official packaging inside)

May not be much of a story, but this is an exception. SMG must be close, I can smell it! Seriously though, when boxart is released it usually means the game’s coming soon. November 29th is the pitched date from Nintendo, hopefully no later please. :D (Full size boxart inside)

Wii and DS down under - Q4 releases

Tag: DS News, Wii NewsPrattP @ 6:31 am

Late last month Nintendo confirmed most of its Q4 line up, with December being notably empty. Today we have learned the dates for a few big games slated in for release in December. We should probably say date though, as all releases are due to come out on December 13, which is actually a bit stupid. All proposed releases inside.
