Team Ninja <3 Nintendo! (That’s a heart in case you didn’t know)

Tag: Nintendo NewsMr_M @ 9:09 pm

The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and… well, you all know the rest.In a recent interview, Yosuke Hayashi, the producer of Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, admitted that the game had inspired him and his team to create more titles for Nintendo’s DS and Wii consoles.

Despite not confirming any plans for a DS-based sequel to Ninja Gaiden, Hayashi stated that “having been able to work on developing a title for the DS this time around I’ve seen a lot of exciting opportunities and I myself am more excited that I now see the DS being a handheld or console that I can work on and develop a better game perhaps in the future.”

He went on to say that “When the DS first came out for awhile it was very popular but I couldn’t get a grip on what titles were going to really show off the hardware in terms of its capabilities. I do feel that Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword has been able to move in that direction. Hopefully this title will lead to some examples of how to create some even more exciting action games. So in that sense I would like to work on something in the future for the DS.” Hopefully indeed!

“Wii is also the same way. I see a huge amount of potential in the hardware and I am personally very into it and pretty excited about what can be possible on the Wii. I’m hoping I can come up with something for the Wii from our team.” Does this mean there’ll be a Ninja Gaiden game on the Wii? We’ll have to wait and see…

Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword is rumoured to have an Australian release on June 25th (though Gametraders will be stocking the US version in April). In the meantime, you can hit the forums to discuss the game and stay posted on any new developments!

My Health Coach: Weight Management

Tag: DS NewsPrattP @ 10:08 pm

Ubisoft announced that it will publish My Health Coach: Weight Management for the Nintendo DS in winter 2008. Developed in Ubisoft’s Montreal studio, under the guidance of both a fitness coach and a nutritionist, My Health Coach: Weight Management is a new and innovative way to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle and loose weight. For the first time on Nintendo DS, My Health Coach: Weight Management includes an exclusive accessory: a pedometer which counts the steps you walk each day.

This pedometer works in a very interesting way. You wear the pedometer during the day, then via a special attachment, plug it into your DS slot to give the game you steps data.

Slightly gimmicky (eliminates fake entries) however is undeniably pretty cool.

See pics of how the attachment works and is used inside.

The Carnival is still in town…

Tag: DS News, Wii NewsPrattP @ 9:57 pm

Carnival Games for the Wii was highly successful, and it comes really as no surprise that the mini game compilation from Take-Two is spreading its roots.

Announced earlier this week, Take-Two have confirmed that Carnival Games will indeed have a DS remake, and also boast another Wii iteration, titled Carnival Games: Mini-Golf.

The games that target the child/family/casual market seem to be having the success lately over the more “quality” titles, however hopefully this changes soon with the release of Mario Kart Wii, and dare I say Smash Bros. Brawl.

However, the polish of Take-Two’s games will hopefully triumph, so let’s hope these games prove to be a bit better than expected.

Ultimate Nintendo magazine coming soon!

Tag: Nintendo NewsPrattP @ 9:46 pm

Well, after the passing of the short Nintendo Gamer, from Next Publishing, no Australian Nintendo magazine existed or exists.

Now, the lovely people at Derwent Howard have revived the genre bringing the magazine titled Ultimate Nintendo to Aussie news stands soon.

Will the magazine survive? That’s a whole other issue in itself, however with the track record of other Ninty magazines, and even the print industry for games in general, it doesn’t look too good. Hopefully it can pull through, so get behind it!

Full details of release will be announced when known (very soon). You can deduce what’s in the first issue from the cover at left.

Flip out like a Ninja… with your stylus!

Tag: DS NewsMr_M @ 11:58 pm

The purpose of the ninja is to flip out and… well, you all know the rest.Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, one of the most interesting DS releases of the year, has already been reviewed by a few gaming magazines and websites, and the current consensus is very positive.

In the beginning, Ninja Gaiden garnered a lot of interest for it’s technical aspects. Holding the DS sideways like a book (or a Brain Training game), the player gets to experience a fast-paced action game where all the fighting moves are controlled by the stylus. The game also contains impressive pre-rendered backgrounds to complement it’s 3D rendered characters.

It appeared to be a huge gamble, especially since it was Team Ninja’s first ever DS title, but it all seems to have come together, with many reviews praising the game for it’s great gameplay, spot-on touchscreen controls and spectacular graphics (by DS standards anyway). Metacritic, the website that collects various reviews to generate an average score, currently has Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword rated at 85%.

Needless to say, this is shaping up to be one of the most exciting DS releases of the year. It is set for a March 25 release in the states, with a tentative March June release for Australia. Rest assured, as soon as the game has a confirmed Australian release date, you’ll hear about it here on TNB!

Mario Kart Wii will contain DS tracks!

Tag: Wii NewsMr_M @ 11:25 pm

mkartwii.jpgWe all knew that Mario Kart Wii would contain ‘classic’ tracks, but it turns out Mario Kart DS is already considered to be a classic.

Two of the tracks from Mario Kart DS- Yoshi Falls and Delfino Square- have been confirmed, with the possibility of more to come.

The tracks look much nicer on the Wii (duh), and have also been widened to accomodate the extra number of racers in Mario Kart Wii. Some minor changes have also been made, with Yoshi Falls now containing a small boost jump.

To see side-by-side comparisons of the tracks on Wii and DS, visit http://au.ds.ign.com/articles/858/858269p1.html.
