The Nintendo DS has set another record in the UK, with the portable selling through 191,000 units last week alone. This is more than any other hardware format had ever achieved in a seven-day period. Nintendo spoke out, saying “We’re obviously delighted to be able to announce this. Momentum has been increasing on DS sales and to achieve the highest weekly sales figure ever in the history of the games market is fantastic.” So who had the record the DS? Why it was the PSP on its launch week- a sure sign of how well the DS is going and perhaps its expanded market?

Nintendo of America have also announced that it’s reached record sales for the week between November 18 and 24, having sold more products than at any time in its history. And, these are only the sales figures for the first week of the holiday shopping season - so it’s likely there’s a lot more to come.

The Nintendo DS has beaten its predecessor, the Game Boy Advance’s tally of 600 000 units during the 2005 Thanksgiving season, with the new record sales total of over 653 000 units during the week.

To show Australians how it’s done when it comes to Wii sales, the US Wii total for the week amounted to a huge 350 000, easily eclipsing the recently announced 200 000 in 50 weeks landmark by Nintendo Australia. Of course with a population as large as the US has compared to Down Under, it’s not a great surprise. This also happens to be the highest amount of Wii consoles sold in the US since its launch last year, and the console’s popularity has earned it top billing on many holiday wish lists.

Again taking the Australian record of fastest selling console, and turning up the heat a bit, the Wii was also the fastest seller in the US, reaching 5 million units sold in less than a year.
