E3 concludes for 2008
Well, the E3 Media and Business Summit has concluded for another year. This E3 in particular goes down as one of the worst in history, with the announcement to the gaming public that many companies would not be delivering ‘core’ news at E3 anymore. Instead, the focus of the future E3 will be on the broader audiences.
The company head of Ubisoft, Laurent Detoc, made the following statement on the new E3:
“The world used to come to E3. Now it’s like a pipe-fitters show in the basement,”
The EA Boss John Riccitiello told the San Francisco chronicle the following:
“I hate E3 like this, either we need to go back to the old E3, or we’ll have to have our own private events.”
Lastly on the Nintendo front, Shigeru Miyamoto earlier this week, also made comments in relation to the new E3 and how Nintendo’s approach to the Business Summit had changed:
‘E3 is no longer an event where Nintendo will be showcasing games aimed at the core audience. It is not the right place to showcase classic franchises and fan-favorites.’
It seems E3 has changed from core to broad. This comes as disappointing news to many video game fans.
