DSi not an issue for Vicarious Visions

Tag: DS News, Nintendo Newskksl1der @ 2:00 pm

A recent interview with Vicarious Visions’ Decades development team has revealed the Nintendo DSi will not stop the production of future hand-held Guitar Hero.

The producer David Nathanielsz confirmed the continuation of the Guitar Hero series on the Nintendo DS with the following statement, “I’ll tell you we’re very excited about the DSi. We’ve seen the news and are excited about the capabilities of that system and really excited to hunker down here and look at ways we can support it.”

Owners of Guitar Hero: On Tour may be wondering if the original grip will be compatible with future Guitar Hero games on the DSi, but unfortunately no information in relation to this was discussed during the interview.

MR_M DOES GO3

THE CONSUMER EXPO - ROCK BAND, AND SOME OTHER THINGS

I must admit, after what had happened in the week leading up to GO3 I thought I’d be writing some mock article about how lame GO3 was. But, truth be told, I ended up going and it turned out to be totally awesome. So I guess in all fairness to the organisers and the people working there, I should start by saying why my experience with GO3 was totally cool, before doing a mock on how lame the conference (probably) was. So let’s begin…

Lego Indiana Jones Wii - Hands On

Tag: Nintendo News, Wii NewsQuatters @ 6:49 pm

Lego Indy comes to Wii! And every single other platform out there! So when we went to Activision, we got to play a game we were very excited about -  Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventure. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for a couple of years, you would have heard of and most likely played the Lego Star Wars games released over the last few years, and this is a continuation of that series, however in the Indiana Jones universe.

If you’ve played the Lego Star Wars games, this game will be very familiar, however rather than just swap Star Wars for Indiana Jones, they’ve actually improved on and added more to the games. The first thing you’ll notice is that there’s more focus on puzzle solving than the previous games. There are also traps ahoy so you need to keep your eyes open especially wide this time around, and there’s also quite a lot of focus on exploration. While the manipulation of Lego blocks will be familiar, now characters also have items that can be picked up and discarded which are also needed to solve puzzles. Shovels are needed to dig up items and steer boats, wrenches can fix machinery, guns can be acquired off enemies, and last, but not least, you can even get a rocket launcher. This was just in the space of the first two levels of the game, so we imagine there are many more items to come. More inside.

Guitar Hero: On Tour - Eyes On

Tag: DS News, Nintendo NewsQuatters @ 9:28 pm

Guitar Hero was last year’s biggest selling franchise in Australia, and Activision have now decided to port it to the biggest selling console, the DS.

This is something I was skeptical about at first, as the main appeal of Guitar Hero is actually playing a guitar, not just hitting buttons on a controller.

The first pictures of the Guitar Grip I saw made the peripheral look very bulky and didn’t seem as though it would work, however I’ve now had an, “eyes on” and the Guitar Grip is slimmer and much more comfortable than I expected. Full article inside…

Nintendo to fix Wii memory shortage?

Tag: Nintendo News, Wii NewsPrattP @ 5:51 pm

Nintendo has done their yearly check-in with the hardcore fans and guess what they found out? That we all want better storage options! Maybe it was the influence of developers such as Harmonix and Activision, who have excluded downloadable features from games because of the lack of space, or maybe there was enough noise for them to finally listen. More inside.

Activision a no-show at E3

Tag: Nintendo NewsPrattP @ 5:19 pm

In a surprise announcement, Activision will be missing from this year’s E3 Media and Business summit which will be held later this year in July. Although the event has ditched its controversial format from last year and returned home to the Los Angeles Convention Centre, the industry giant has said that,

“After careful consideration, it will not participate in any official E3 activities this year.”

So while the company may not be at the Convention Centre, a presentation in a hotel room or similar may still be on the cards. Apart from the date and location, the makeup of this year’s E3 has remained a mystery. More as it happens.

We Love Golf - Hands On

Tag: Nintendo News, Wii NewsMaxi @ 6:30 pm

I’m going to be honest with you, going into Activision, this was the game I was least looking forward to playing. Golf to me is an extremely boring sport, and playing golf games isn’t really much better. Despite going in with these low expectations, I actually ended up quite enjoying this game.

The game is being developed by Camelot Software, which should be familiar to anyone who has played the Mario Golf series. The controls utilise the Wii-mote as the club. Hold down the B trigger to practice a swing, and the A button will go for a real swing. Like Wii Sports golf, you pull back to bring the club back, but to hit the ball, you wait until the cursor moves back to the start of the bar before swinging down. It’s a bit awkward at first, but after a while it becomes incredibly fun and provides a more rewarding experience than the Wii Sports version.

I played Wii Sports golf when I got home to see how We Love Golf would stack up, and it is a much better game overall. Of course, you can’t use your Mii, but there are a handful of characters to choose from, with changeable costumes. You can unlock more including some classic Capcom characters and Capcom costumes for other characters. We played by taking turns at each hole, but the real fun would come about from playing multi with a group of mates using different characters. It would be a great game for drinking and talking trash!

The game is also extremely cute. The colours are bright and vibrant and it really adds some charm to the game. It’s easy enough to get into, but if you put the time in, you can muck around with topspin and backspin, as well as fade and draw.

So all in all, the game looks like it will be a fun golf experience for the whole family!

Guitar Hero: On Tour DS featuring awesome peripheral!

Tag: DS NewsPrattP @ 9:41 pm

As Ubisoft have done with a pedometer that attaches to the DS’ GBA slot, similarly have Activision, announcing a peripheral for the upcoming game, Guitar Hero: On Tour for NDS.

Prior to the announcement of the peripheral, many questioned the feasibility of Guitar Hero on the DS, but with the unexpected announcement, it has seemingly put our fears to some sort of halt.

See what the peripheral is and looks like inside!
