Bee Movie Game

 (Wii)

What do you get when you cross Jerry Seinfeld with the crazy, high-flying life of a bee? A mix of perfect humour and fanatical events, all with enormous amounts of honey filled fun for the whole family to enjoy.
Activision have done a very good job this time around with the release of Bee Movie Game, obviously the tie-in game of the movie, Bee Movie. As one would think, “a movie game is a movie game”, it has to be noticed that some movie games are becoming better and better as time passes, and are almost passing the tiring cliché that all movie games are just made to cash in on the potential of the children’s gaming market. Now onto the game…
BMG is centred (as is the movie) around the life and trials of Barry B. Benson, the bee who is sick of humans stealing the bees’ honey. The game features seamless graphics from film to game, and boasts over 15 levels, multiplayer mini-games, side quests, plus a wide variety of never before seen content co-created by Dreamworks Animation and Activision exclusively for the game.
As it is natively a next-gen movie game, the game’s animation system brilliantly captures Barry’s lightning fast pace while he’s chasing targets, engaging in aerial dogfights and dodging deadly raindrops.
You experience two perspectives in the game, one of the human world, and one of the bee’s world. Barry’s home town or “base” if you like is known as New Hive City, an immersive and bustling wax city built by bees that is located inside a Central Park beehive.
When in the human world, Barry uses his weapon, being a collecting tool known as “The Pollinator”, and also spy camera, just to help him along in his quest for justice.
The game however would still be classed as a kid’s game, but quite a bit of fun can actually be had by the older demographic.
In the humour department that comes to be expected in a game produced and starring Jerry Seinfeld, BMG presents pretty well, with some light hearted jokes that sometimes have a double meaning that only adults understand, adding to the intention of the whole family being involved in the game.
Overall, Bee Movie Game is actually a very good addition to the movie game cliché, as it is almost laying a path for much better movie games to come in the future.

                                                                                                                     Text Box:
Graphics: A- Very smooth, almost identical to the movie.
Sound: B Pleasant enough little tunes, however they can become repetitive.
Gameplay: A- A very normal platformer, however it is varied in its execution.

Overall: B+
A breath of fresh air for the movie game cliché, and hopefully leads the way for better movie games in the future.
