Picross DS
(DS)

Possibly riding off the success of fellow puzzler, Sudoku, Picross DS is one of the more recent editions to the Touch Generations battalion.
Picross puzzles (Or ‘nonagrams’) are comprised of a group of cells which must either be filled or left blank according to the numbers shown along the top and left side of the grid to create a picture. The pictures usually contain little detail (More detail means bigger grids!) but the sense of satisfaction from completing a puzzle is still there.
This perplexing piece of puzzling entertainment feels comfortable on the DS. Utilizing the touch screen, you can solve puzzles with greater ease than Picross DS’ paper counterparts. The game consists of over 300 puzzles however more are available via the Nintendo Wi-Fi system. (Currently the extra downloadable packs consist of classic puzzles from ‘Mario’s Picross’, a Game Boy game)
What else is one to do when you have completed the hundreds of available puzzles?
Firstly, you can create your own and upload them via Wi-Fi for your friends to download and play. Also using the Wi-Fi, one can play against their friends (Also via local Wi-Fi) or a stranger in a race to complete 2 random Picross puzzles.
Furthermore, there is system called ‘Daily Picross’ in which the player partakes in a series of Picross oriented exercises such as ‘Time Attack’. Your progress is then measurable on an, albeit small, graph.
This game, although simple, is easily accessible to all ages (provided they have opposable digits; my cat hates me) and gamers. This is a must have for the DS and most likely the #1 Puzzle game on our favourite little handheld.
